Heal your heart with the power of CACAO

  I would love to take a few minutes to formally introduce you to Momma Cacao. According to traditional shamanic practices no one plant can be owned by any one people, but we do need to acknowledge all the people who came before us and their shared wisdom that allows us to work with her today. 

Archeologist have found evidence that she was used alongside other plant medicines in ceremonies for thousands of years dating as far back as the Olmecs.  Even though we can trace her usage back all the way to this first major Mesoamerican civilization, there is no evidence or oral tradition that suggests any formal cacao ceremony.  We do know that she was revered because as the Spanish invaded Mesoamerica in the 1500’s they bore witness to storehouses of not gold but cacao. The Aztec warriors were being paid with cacao beans, so it can be assumed that the ancient people felt a strong connection to her energy. This strong bond is also reflected in her sacred name, Theobroma. Theo meaning God and Broma meaning food. So, food of the Gods. Chemists once again were called to honor her name when they identified the basic compound found in cacao, theobromine. 

Theobromine is a cardiovascular stimulant. We work with Keith’s cacao because he purposefully set out to find cacao beans with high theobromine and low caffeine ratios.  Where caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant and can sometimes lead to jitters, theobromine is not and can lead to a more heart opening experience.  Keith also made sure that all the beautiful people that make this cacao possible from harvest to cup are held with love and respect.
